The results for assessment 1 are now online. They are sorted by the last 4 digits of ID number. If there's only 3 it's because there's a leading zero.
I was disappointed by the results. They suggest that students are not as on top of things as I thought they were.

I don't understand how you can say you're disappointed with the results and blame the students understanding without questioning your own teaching methods.Three students out of 28 doesn't exactly say much about your methods nor the examination which I found to be to vague in most parts and most of my fellow students agreed about that on the day as we were all left scratching our heads outside the door. You've basically finished the course now and we're in week 8.The exam was done in week 7 and basically covered the whole course meaning you crammed what should take 11-12 weeks into 6 or 7 weeks.
We would appreciate if it we could discuss this in the upcoming class.
I agree with the first comment. When I originally heard about the test I thought it was very peculiar that we were to sit a 50% exam in week 7, 50% is a hell of alot of marks and something like that would usually in all our experience, be held at the end of a semester to give the students a fair chance. However, I bit my tongue and regrettably said nothing. The exam itself was advanced to myself, someone like many others in the class, had never worked with Javascript before, and perhaps an exam like that would be more suited to an August repeat to cover the whole course. Colin, I'm positive that these results are as damaging to your reputation as it is to our results, and I certainly feel that it does not fairly reflect the effort that my class and I have put in. Does 3 out of 28 say anything to you???
No doubt its too late for us at this stage for things to be changed, but I would say for your own sake, and the well fair of the next set of students to take this module, perhaps a different approach should be taken, an approach that encourages students to learn and enjoy Javascript, not struggle to make up marks and grow to dislike the module.
I agree with the above comments. You have been struggling for a few years now when it comes to your teaching methods. You should revise your teaching methods. Take a page out of other lecturer's books, since clearly, their students are learning due to well taught courses, whereas yours, are not.
If this is a stepping stone in how you tailor your teaching methods, then you need to think of the students that are being affected both financially from repeats or the possibilty of repeating a year and the fact that this is their education and every grade matters.
Todays talk in class was a waste of time. It is so obviously clear that all your worried about is cheating, and how to stop it. At one point a student had you up against the wall and made some excellent and valid points, yet you still just bypassed the actual problems.
You might say, "well why didnt you say something in class so", but im afraid Colin that were all aware of your vengeful trait and didnt say anything for a fear of a backlash.
Maybe its time to spend more time teaching students instead of recording classes with your flash gadgets that you love so much.
